Motorweek on-site to discuss the topic of Branded Titles: Salvage and Rebuilt.
Stephanie Hart of Motorweek recently came out to Auto Tag Connect’s location in the City of Annapolis to interview Beth Caro, President. The discussion was on the topic of Branded Titles and the effects on the private party purchasers. The episode is set to launch on March 25, 2023.
Have you ever purchased a vehicle from craigslist? Don’t want to admit it? It’s ok, we understand. But let’s make you more confident in understanding what you need to look for on the vehicle and the title.
Recently, we had customers that came in with a title for a vehicle purchase on Facebook marketplace. The title VIN and the VIN on the Maryland Safety Inspection didn’t match. Next, our title agent entered the VIN on the Title, into the NMVTIS -National Motor Vehicle Title Information System to request a nationwide research of where, when, and at what mileage was the vehicle titled in the US.
It was found to be a Salvage Vehicle Branded Title!
The NMVTIS report also provides any brands that have been applied to the vehicle. These brands are found on the paper title for the vehicle. It will state salvage, rebuilt, xsalvage, etc of similar words. These brands mean that the vehicle has gone through a possible 60% - 100% car accident damages, flooding, fire, hail, or similar damages. These vehicles are typically repaired and resold. It is important to verify that the repairs done to re-establish safety standards have met quality standard repairs. If the vehicle is being sold to you with a third party report, like a safety inspection, it is ok to get a second shop’s opinion.
The customers in our office found that when they rechecked the physical VIN on the vehicle it was different from the title! In the end they were lucky the seller had bought two of the same vehicles and had given them the wrong title. These things happen! Remember, if you purchase one of these vehicles with branded titles, reach out to our title experts. A lot of these vehicle titles can be processed on site with proper document and status.
