Celebrating 17 years of Conservation…. Annapolis Green says, “Now, Lets talk Electric Vehicles”.
The Annapolis Green “Green Drinks” event held at Blackwall Hitch in Eastport was a kick off to the legislation session. The crowd was ready to support the continued environmental conservation efforts of the local organization. Lynne Forsman and Elvia Thompson, Founders of the non-profit organization based out of Annapolis since 2006, were cheerful as they announced their special speakers of the night. There were three, to include, Delegate David Fraser-Hidalgo (District 15, Montgomery County), who also serves on the Chesapeake Bay Trust board.
Delegate Fraser-Hidalgo shouted out over a revved up crowd about the upcoming legislative bills to pay attention to. His speech helped the eco-aware audience focus on what will change for the electric vehicle community with a successful session.
One important bill specifically effecting the electric vehicle owners is, House Bill 123 for the HOV Sticker program revival. If this bill is passed the HOV Sticker program will be extended with annual meetings until September 30, 2035.
Another change in the automotive industry for 2023 are the Federal and State electric vehicle rebates upcoming for July. These rebates are specific to certain qualifying vehicles. To see what vehicles would qualify if your in the market, check out this EV guide created by the Maryland Department of the Environment.
There are two rebates available for new vehicles purchased, the federal rebate of $7,500 and the Maryland State rebate of $3,000. These rebates will be effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2027 for newly purchased vehicles. Under the Federal rebate, buyers can qualify for portions of the $7,500 rebate for used and commercial grade vehicles (vehicles over 14,000 pounds). For the Maryland Businesses, you may also qualify for the tax credit on up to ten vehicles. Which could save you a total of $105,000 if your Maryland Business is looking to upgrade their fleet.
